WEEK 14

COLOURS

After doing some research on the internet and looking some articles on the meaning of colours, I choose this one: https://graf1x.com/color-psychology-emotion-meaning-poster/

I opt for this article because it explains the meaning of all colours in a very clear and concise way and without beating around the bush. It is simple to get for everyone and it allows for understanding how a colour can make you feel in a particular way, especially depending on how they are used (in art or in advertisement, for example).

I'm sure you will immediately recognise this well-known picture: The Starry Night, by the famous post-impresionist artist Vincent van Gogh. At first sight, it is noticeable that the colour that predominates the scene is blue, with some yellow and white brush-strokes. In his works, he mainly used colours in order to manifest his emotions, and, in this case, the contrast between the blue of the sky, mountains and houses, and the orange and yellow of the moon and stars is used to give balance to the paint. Firstly, regarding to the article mentioned before, blue induces calm and serenity and recalls feelings of trust and integrity, but, in the same way, this colour can be perceived as aloof and distant, separating the audience from the paint. In contrast to this colour, yellow is used to grab the attention of the spectator because the eyes sees it first, added to the fact that it also illuminates the dark scene and provides fresh energy. Thus, the combination of these two colours creates a perfect harmony between the dark and the light.

Finally, this week, in order to improve my english I have been studying for my finals and, specially, for Lengua Inglesa III. I have been also reading a book in English for another subject.
