I have searched some websites on the Internet to find some explanations of the narrative writing: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/general_writing/academic_writing/essay_writing/narrative_essays.html https://www.writeexpress.com/narrative-essay.html To summarize, the narrative essay: is told from a particular point of view makes and supports a point is filled with precise detail uses vivid verbs and modifiers uses conflict and sequence as does any story may use dialogue This weekend I have been looking for some interesting cultural information about the Celtic Culture and I have also been reading the book: The Witchfinder's sister.

WEEK 20: RAVE REVIEWS (Celia Mantilla Fernández)

Imagen
First of all, here is the link of the review I´m gonna comment on:  https://geeks.media/classic-review-the-picture-of-dorian-gray To begin with, the first part of the review should include a eye-catching title, but it does not include it. The first two paragraphs could be mix into onebut it is a good introduction. Then we have a paragraph with further information. And then four paragraphs after that where the writer gives a detail summary of what is being reviewed. Finally we have the final paragraph where the writer states a good conclusion which includes some recommendations. This week I´ve tried to improve my English by watching some films in English.

WEEK 19: DESCRIPTIVE ESSAYS (Celia Mantilla Fernández)

Imagen
The main difference between the descriptive and the narrative is that the narrative essay includes action but the descriptive does not. Also, narration follows a logical order, typically chronological whereas description does not usually use time elements. An example of Descriptive essay would be: This week I tried to improve my english by helping my little brother to write an opinion essay.

WEEK 21: TELLING THE TRUTH (CLARA MONTALBÁN PEÑALVER)

Imagen
I have searched some websites and I have found certain information about the pattern that a liar follows. If we know more about this, we will catch the person that we believe is not telling the truth to us. Here are some examples of the behaviour of these liars: 1. They tend to stand very still. 2. They repeat words and phrases. 3. They provide too much info. 4. They may stare at you without blinking much. 5. They may change their head position quickly. Morover, I have seen some scenes of the film Liar, Liar and I can say that I could not without lying. White lies are sometimes necessary and they do not have to be bad at all. This week I have continued watching some TV series from Netflix in their Original Version and I have also been watching some make up tutorials on Youtube so that I can improve my English and my artistic skills.

I am going to upload the link of the review that I am going to analyze: https://entertainment.ie/tv/netflix/review-netflixs-you-is-a-trashy-thriller-you-wont-be-able-to-stop-watching-387274/ This review talks about the TV series "YOU". The review starts by describing the general plot and what genre is it. In the next paragraphs, the author talks about some of the characters and she gives her opinion on them. Finally, the author gives her opinion on the whole series and a conclusion. I have improved my English this week by watching the TV in English and reading the book that we have to read for Literature which is The Witchfinder´s sister. In addition, I watched a film in English with my cousin called the Hobbit.

WEEK 19: DESCRIPTIVE ESSAYS (CLARA MONTALBÁN PEÑALVER)

Difference between narrative and descriptive essay: In addition, descriptive essay deals with the feelings that you get when you read about it. In a descriptive essay you have to explain in detail every characteristic of the scenery and characters. Here it is an example of descriptive essay: This week I have been watching a series called Bates Motel in the Original Version so that I can improve my English.

WEEK 19: DESCRIPTIVE ESSAYS (Pilar Victoria Martínez)

Descriptive essay: this type of essay aims at helping you illustrate something to your reader in a way that they can see, feel or hear what you are talking about. This is all about describing or summarizing a topic. Narrative essay: this is used to tell a story from a defined point of view, often the author’s, so there is feeling as well as specific and often sensory details provided to get the reader involved in the elements and sequence. Discursive essay: this type of essay is used to investigate an argument by offering two opposing perspectives to establish the author’s opinion on a topic and persuading one’s stance by exploring the reasons why each view may or may not be valid through a calm and neutral tone. The essay includes an introduction, body and conclusion centered on a chosen theme, in this case, the advent of ecommerce. The writing style includes descriptions and opinion and its main objective is to relate the qualities of the topic. To improve my Engl

Five additional idioms with body parts:        to put one's foot in it = do or say something foolish. Why did you tell her about it? You always put your foot in it!        cry your heart out = cry very hard I cried my heart out when my best friend moved away.        play something by ear = do something without a plan We don't know if the weather will be good enough for camping. We'll have to play it by ear.        wash one’s hands of something = stop dealing with an issue or problem I'm washing my hands of Mary's addiction. She is going to have to get some professional help.        stick your neck out = help someone a lot, with possible bad consequences to oneself I stuck my neck out for Bessie when she was thrown out of her house. WEEK 17: IN MY VIEW (Pilar Victoria Martínez)

LGTB representation in series, films, books and even advertisement:   In my opinion, there is a big lack of LGTB representation in all cultural products we consume in our everyday life. Heterosexual couples are still the norm, sometimes shoehorning them. This is frequently supported with the argument of “homosexual couples could confuse kids”, “they are too little to see LGTB people”, and this kind of opinions which suggest that LGTB people are unusual and disgusting weirdos in society, when it is actually the opposite: people of the LGTB community are as common as heterosexual ones, but we tend to take for granted everyone is heterosexual because, as I said before, it is the norm and to what we are used to. Nevertheless, if LGTB people were properly represented (without the typical stereotypes) in TV and literature, more people would normalize them, and this would mean for younger generations not to be as confused about their sexuality as older ones were. The obvious conclus

In this week, we have learned some of the most common idioms. Apart from the ones given in the example, here are more idioms related with body parts and their meaning: All ears- fully listening Cold feet- nervous just before a big event Give a hand- help (someone) do something An old hand- an experienced person Rule of thumb- basic rule (not always followed) Here there are two webpages where we can find a great explanation of the inversion: https://www.learn-english-today.com/lessons/lesson_contents/verbs/inversion.html https://dictionary.cambridge.org/es/gramatica/gramatica-britanica/word-order-and-focus/inversion Furthermore, this week I have been e-mailing my internet best friend Ashley, which is from Hawaii, and we have been chatting all in English.

WEEK 17: IN MY VIEW (CLARA MONTALBÁN PEÑALVER)

There is a trending topic almost all around the world that I cannot stand. And that is the fact that people use Starbucks´s plastic coffee mugs as a way of feeling cooler. I feel that it is so embarrasing seeing some youngsters buying Starbuck´s drinks  just to show off, even when they do not like drinking these. In addition, the coffee sold in this company is horrible because all of the flavours taste exactly the same. These are two links where the infinitive is explained: https://www.ef.com/wwen/english-resources/english-grammar/infinitive/ http://www.chompchomp.com/terms/infinitive.htm I have been searching for info related with endangered animals and zoo prohibition in English so that I can improve my English and my general knowledge about this issue.

WEEK 16: LANGUAGE (CLARA MONTALBÁN PEÑALVER)

Imagen
This is the map of all the spoken languages in the world that I have found. Currently I  speak Spanish, which is my mother language, and I can also speakenglish in a fluent way. I am learning French since I was 11 but I do not think I have a high level. In addition I am also studying Japanese and I am going to get an A1 level this year. In my freetime I also enjoy learning norwegian in an APP called Mondly. Morover, I would like to study norwegian in an academy or something like that so that I learn more apart from the basic vocabulary and sentences. Furthermore, I am very interested in learning portuguese as it sounds very funny to me. Finally, I would like to say that to improve my English this week I have been watching this series called You in the original version.

WEEK 17: IN MY VIEW (Celia Mantilla Fernández)

It seems to me that a very important issue is to encourage children and teenagers to read more. Reading is essential in order for them to be more creative and to learn how to think by themselves, among other things. It is my belief that literature is incredibly important and many times we don´t inspire our children enough to immerse themselves into that world. And I tell you this because I think we should try to change this tendency and show children how reading is actually amazing and life changing. Infinitive:  https://www.ef.com/wwen/english-resources/english-grammar/infinitive/ This week, to try to improve my English, I finished a book called The Picture of Dorian Gray".

WEEK 16: LANGUAGE (Pilar Victoria Martínez)

Imagen
Surfing the Internet, I have found this map which represents the most important languages in the world and where are they spoken. I think it is worth-mentioning the fact that English is one of the most spoken languages in the world, just like Spanish and Chinese. Nowadays, I can say that I speak fluidly two languages: Spanish, which is my mother tongue, and English. I am also learning German and I have a completely basic level, which I would love to improve because it is a very important language in Europe and I would like to visit the country someday. Also, I would love to learn some other different languages just as Japanese or Chinese, although I think they may be very difficult for me. Another language I used to study in high school and I would like to take up again is French, in order to make up for the level I had. This week, in order to improve my English, I started watching a TV show called Black Mirror.

WEEK 16: LANGUAGE (Celia Mantilla Fernández)

Imagen
In the present moment I speak three different languages: Spanish, English and French and I love and enjoy the three of them but I also want to learn some other languages in the future. An example of a language I would love to learn is Italian but also Norwegian or German are languages that I find incredibly interesting and that I would love to get acquainted with. This week to try to improve my English I started watching a British television series called Peaky Blinders.
