The main difference between the descriptive and the narrative is that the narrative essay includes action but the descriptive does not.
Also, narration follows a logical order, typically chronological whereas description does not usually use time elements.
An example of Descriptive essay would be:
This week I tried to improve my english by helping my little brother to write an opinion essay.
